About Actwise

Life is complicates. Not a typo. A truth.

At Actwise, we believe complexity doesn't need to be complicated. In a world overwhelmed by noise and perfection, we choose to work from the in-between — the uncertain, the unfinished, the mute-but-resonating space where meaning quietly reveals itself.

Actwise is not just a studio. It’s an evolving practice of capturing moments, building narratives, and designing tools for reflection. Whether it’s a photograph that holds time still, a short film that disorients linearity, or a handmade instrument that strums with soul — everything we create is meant to move, to stay, to question.

This platform is both archive and experiment. A home for commissioned work, open-ended ideas, and stories told through various mediums — from images and sound to silence and glitch.

We don’t aim to explain everything.
We aim to make space for everything that can't be explained.

About Founder

Tanate Makkasakul

Artist, photographer, composer, and instrument designer

Born in Bangkok in 1983, Yo (Tanate Makkasakul) is a multidisciplinary creator whose work flows between photography, music, product design, and creative systems. His approach blends analog sensitivity with digital intuition — always searching for emotional resonance in form and function.

He is the founder of Actwise, a studio and media platform shaped by the philosophy that “Life is complicates” — a reflection on how simplicity often conceals rich complexity.

Yo also founded Nine Billion Rams, a photo lab exploring the poetry of process and imperfection. As the mind behind The Rebel Ukulele, he designs not only the look and feel of each instrument but also its voice — crafting custom bracing systems and shaping acoustic responses by hand. His role bridges that of instrument designer, luthier, and composer, approaching sound as both a physical and emotional architecture.

A member of Mute Mute, an artist group working in silence, glitch, and sensory inversion, Yo also composes music and video works that dismantle traditional narrative and time.

From sound objects to visual systems, his work is always in dialogue — between signal and silence, presence and memory, complexity and calm.
