Spruce Top vs Spruce Back
In this new model of the J-Series Cheesecake, we’ve added a side sound port across all units released after May of this year. This improvement came after a long period of experimentation and testing, which showed that the side port helps release more sound, extends sustain, and creates a longer, richer tone.
We also developed a new prototype that challenges our earlier hypothesis—that certain woods might not perform well as back wood. After many failed attempts, we finally achieved a result that can be fairly compared side by side with spruce top vs spruce back ukulele design.
Rather than pushing the sound straight forward with strong projection, this design shifts the entire sound character. It introduces a subtle delay in projection, creating a more resonant and echo-like quality within the body.
You can especially hear the difference when fingerpicking—side by side, the contrast between spruce top vs spruce back ukulele becomes beautifully clear.
